Parks Foundation contributes new trees for Excelsior parks

By Brian Rice

Thanks to Excelsior’s Parks Foundation, four Excelsior Springs parks will soon have more trees.

The Excelsior Springs Parks and Rec Foundation Board recently purchased 15 trees, some to be new additions to parks, others to replace trees that have died.

The trees are a variety of Oak, Maple, Evergreen, Dogwood and Magnolia. The cost was $1,000 and the purchase was made at Penrod’s Greenhouse.

“Our foundation’s mission is to advance the activities and resources of the Excelsior Springs Parks and Recreation Department. We are here to positively impact the quality of life, health and well-being of Excelsior Springs residents and visitors,” said Christi Rice, president of the Parks Foundation. “Our annual Piccadilly fundraiser event is a major contributor to our funding and one of our main projects is to build a splash park for our community. While we are working on this long-term project, it’s important that our foundation continue to help Parks and Rec with other needs and resources too. Providing these trees is just one example of how we’re here to help.”

Excelsior Springs Parks and Rec staff will soon be planting the trees in Luna Valley Park, Century Park, Kibler Park and Sunnyside Park.

In addition to Rice, the Parks Foundation Board consists of Keith Winge as treasurer, Candy Teegarden as secretary, plus Nate Williams, Jade Williams, Kim Sanson, Susan McAuliffe, Brian Rice and Janis Kincaid.
